Indoor Smoking Bans

Club Member & Visitor F.A.Qs

Everyone is Welcome in our Clubs …

The NSW Smoke-free Environment (Amendment) Act 2004 came into force on 2 July 2007. Under this Act, club patrons are no longer allowed to smoke in indoor spaces in club venues or on any licensed premises in New South Wales. All enclosed spaces – including bars and restaurant areas – are now smoke-free. There are no exceptions.

Both the Ballina RSL Club (River Street) and Ballina RSL Bowling Club (Canal Road) have comfortable and compliant outdoor areas for ALL PATRONS to enjoy.

Q. Where can smoking occur on the Ground Floor Ballina RSL Club?

A. Patrons can smoke out on Terraces 1 and 2 which are located adjacent to the recreation areas and sports bar at the eastern end of the ground floor of the club and Terrace 3 which is located at the southeastern corner of club on the ground floor.

Terrace 4 is nonsmoking as it is a food service area.)

Q. What are the consequences if a smoking patron does attempt to smoke in an indoor space in Clubs after 2 July 2007?

A. Patrons who attempt to smoke in an indoor area may receive a fine of up to $550. If a smoker insists on smoking in a smoke-free area and refuses to move to the appropriate area, club staff are directed to report the incident to their Duty Manager. The manager may then choose to eject the patron from the club under Section 67A of the Registered Clubs Act.

Q. Can I still buy cigarettes from vending machines at the Club?

A. Yes. Tobacco vending machines remain unaffected by the implementation of total indoor smoking bans.

Q. Is it just at the Ballina RSL Club & Ballina RSL Bowling Club (Canal Road) that we can no longer smoke in an indoor area?

A. The changes to smoking legislation affect all Clubs and any licensed premises across New South Wales.

Q. If Club members or staff choose to quit smoking, what support is available?
