The Big Gig at the Ballina RSL: introducing Mr Allison

The Ballina RSL launches it's new comedy room: The Big Gig, hosted by comedian extraordinaire, Mandy Nolan on Thursday April 26. This is the first of three free monthly events to introduce patrons to comedy and encourage them to become regular supporters. Every month features a comedian from the national or international circuit. Our first show features Steve Allison.

Steve Allison was born into show business, his parents (The Allison's) were Australia's top sight act for over thirty years. His dad always said as long as you live under this roof you will do things my way. So Steve had to come home from school every day drunk, and tell mum a joke. Steve? Allison knows how to make people laugh. And as soon as Steve picks up the microphone it's obvious. He commands attention, and laughter is the best way to get it. With a cool and casual approach hundreds of thousands of people have enjoyed his clever style of comedy.

The confidence and experience earned from performing over a thousand live shows is clear. He is funny! With a natural sense of humour and quick wit, Steve's show is a well crafted mix of snappy one-liners, hilarious stories, funny home truth's and current topics. It's Aussie humour at it's best. Standout performances in comedy clubs has led to countless corporate gigs, International tours and television appearances, on- The Footy Show - The Comedy Channel's Headliners, Brownies Coast Watch -Brisbane Extra, FMVTV and Domino's home delivered comedy.

Steve Allison isn't a yobbo. He's a genuine larrikin, with an individual show of fun and laughter.

Supporting comedian is Brendan Lovechild - an up and coming talent who's energy and inspiration has infected people all over the country.

The Big Gig will be operating the last Thursday of every month and kicks off at 8.30pm. This is world class comedy. Don't miss out! First three shows are FREE!!!!

WHERE IS MISS SUMMERGIRL? COMPETITION

Begins Monday 30th October – tune in to Paradise FM to take part in all the fun! It’s a bit like Where’s Wally? except she’s better lookin’!

So what’s the story behind this competition?

In the week leading up to Ballina’s 150th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Monday 6th November, a very special guest will be joining the Ballina community. A very special Miss Summergirl, folks … that’s who … and she simply loves a festive community! She’s back from the year of 1964 and has jumped straight off the cover of the 1964 Ballina tourism brochure. Keep your eyes peeled for her around Ballina from Monday 30th October … she may also be carrying her trusty beach ball. Our sources say that Miss Summergirl is keen to experience Ballina in all its glory in 2006 … she’ll be examining all that’s changed since 1964 … and, no doubt … will be in for a few surprises indeed!

How can you participate?

All you have to do is be the first person to spot Miss Summergirl on one of her 7 days of Ballina touring (30th October – 6th November). Upon sighting her, be mighty quick to phone Paradise FM on 6686 0101. If you’re the first caller through and you can correctly confirm her location for the day, you’ll WIN a prize!

We will be tracking and recording Miss Summergirl’s adventures here on our website, through Paradise FM and the Ballina Shire Advocate.

Find out where she’s been, what she’s been up to … and check out her thoughts on the Ballina community of 2006! 1964 is a whopping 42 years ago … so who knows what she might think of us!
