BARREL HOUSE

BARREL HOUSE
Friday, July 17 2009, 9pm

Port Macquarie based trio Barrel House came together early 2007, a three piece blues, roots, rock, dance and funk outfit that in it’s short existence has begun to get people to take notice.

Barrel House are continually challenging themselves to make each show better then the last. With over 250 shows under their belt covering a good chunk of Australia, Barrel House are working very hard to become the ultimate live band. While there is structure around their live set no two performances will be the same as the band like to feel their way through each and every song often letting crowd reactions determine the length of a particular section. It is these grooves that keep people out of their seats all night.

Barrel House have played Open Arms festival through winning a triple j unearthed competition, it was this exposure that gave the band good airplay on Triple J and sent them to the top of the triple j unearthed roots charts. The band have also played Festival of the Sun, Great Noosa Camp Out and supported amazing artists such as Ani DiFranco, Blue King Brown, Jeff Lang, Mama Kin, Ash Grunwald and many more. To top it of Barrel House performed at the 20th Anniversary of Byron Bay Bluesfest in April. Sharing the bill with amazing artists such as Ben Harper, John Butler, Michale Franti, Xavier Rudd, Blue King Brown and so many more..

2009 will see the release of the bands first ep ‘Open Road’. Barrel House have managed to break free from the earthy feel of other roots bands to become something new entirely. Barrel House have added extra dimensions with trumpet from Jason Heise and stunning backing vocals from Lisa Hunt who has graced the stage with Pavarotti, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton and James Brown to name a few.

TROY CASSAR DALEY WITH SPECIAL GUEST FELICITY URQUHART
Sunday, July 26 2009, 3pm (Doors open 2.15pm)

Troy Cassar-Daley is probably best known in Australia as the most likeable bloke in country music! He is also one of Australia’s most awarded and respected singer/songwriters.

Hot on the heels of his Gold Certified ‘Born To Survive’ - Best of CD & Platinum DVD Collection, Troy is set to release the first single from his highly anticipated new album, ‘I Love This Place’, scheduled for release April, 2009 through Troy’s new record label; Liberation Music.

The driving, yet infectiously melodic ‘Big, Big Love’will herald a career defining album for Troy. There is a real energy and positive spirit generated by ‘Big, Big Love’ - one that sets the theme for the entire album. Troy was inspired by a text message from mate, Keith Urban. “Keith was on cloud nine after the birth of Sunday Rose, and signed off the text with ‘Big Love’. I sat down and wrote the song straight away. Love doesn’t get much bigger than the love you have for your family.”

THE HARD WORD

THE HARD WORD
Friday, July 31 2009, 9PM

Have you ever wondered why the Blues, Funk and Soul of the 60’s and 70’s never go out of fashion?

Maybe it’s because the songs were by people who’d lived what they sang about. Today’s manufactured dross just doesn’t hold up. Listen to the charts and every few years that classic funk style comes round again. And who better to play it than people who always have.

Based in the Tweed Shire but playing the coast from Coffs to Noosa, The Hard Word plays a unique mix of hits and classics as well as some surprises. They have looked into the nearly bottomless well of great material from that era and style, and selected songs that are designed to make a hot night hotter and get the dust off your dancin' shoes. It's their own blend of Funk and Soul and it works because they do. There’s no midi’s with this crew: they do it live, they way it’s supposed to be done: a real band playing the music they like and the great grooves can’t fail to move anybody with a bit of rhythm in ‘em.

From Superstition to Sexual Healing with the essence of James Brown, you won’t be able to keep still when you hear this hypnotic amalgam of soul, blues, and funk. Drummer Gary Kafoa and Guitar man Rob Cenda join bass trooper Dr Greg and Sax-man Dave Sandford from Relax With Max and Jimmy Barnes’ band so that Canadian expat vocalist Mohini Cox has a powerful line-up to transport all and sundry as she exorcises the demons of soul.

IT’S OLD SKOOL BUT WAY COOL!

COUNTRY BY CANDLELIGHT - DINNER SHOW WITH JAMES BLUNDELL, LIAM BREW & KIRSTY LEE AKERS

COUNTRY BY CANDLELIGHT - DINNER SHOW WITH JAMES BLUNDELL, LIAM BREW & KIRSTY LEE AKERS
Friday, August 07 2009, Doors: 6.30pm, Show: 7.30pm

JAMES BLUNDELL - James Blundell is acknowledged by many as the act single-handedly responsible for turning a younger demographic of Australians onto country music. He was the first young Australian country artist to create an impact on the mainstream pop charts (Way Out West his duet with James Reyne was one of the biggest selling singles of 1992) and for three years running was the highest selling country artist in the nation. James was also the first Australian country act to sign to a major label recording deal via Nashville in the USA paving the way for the likes of Keith Urban, Kasey Chambers, Catherine Britt and many others. An Australian country music success story James has been the recipient of nine CMAA (Country Music Association of Australia) Golden Guitar Awards and is a four-time ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) Award nominee.

LIAM BREW - winner of the 2009 TOYOTA STAR MAKER QUEST. Liam graduated from the 2007 Tamworth Camerata and was the Overall Winner of the Maton Talent Search at the Toyota National Music Muster at Gympie, Qld. He was a graduate of the 2008 CMAA Australian College of Country and a Grand Finalist in the Telstra Road To Tamworth. In his senior year at high school Liam’s class was asked to draft individual career plans and while most of his contemporaries cited university high on their list, or highly paid executive jobs, Liam’s plan was to win Toyota Star Maker 2009.

KIRSTY LEE AKERS – ‘Better Days’ is the much anticipated second release from Hunter Valley singer-songwriter Kirsty Lee Akers. The album sees the diminutive 20-year-old drawing influences from her musical heroes (such as Dolly Parton and Leann Womack) to produce a commercial country-pop sound that places her comfortably alongside chart topping US stars Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler and Taylor Swift, albeit with her working class Australian outlook well intact.

CHARMAINE WILSON - SPIRIT MEDIUM

CHARMAINE WILSON - SPIRIT MEDIUM
Tuesday, September 22 2009, 8pm (Doors Open 7.30pm)

The Winner of Channel Seven's Hit Series The One and Australian Psychic of the Year ... Charmaine Wilson will give her audiences a chance to connect with those who have passed over in order to give messages of peace and love to the living. Having just completed a sell-out tour of Australian capital cities, the remarkable medium brings her special gift back to regional Australia. Don't miss Charmaine Wilson - The Spirit Whisperer.

Charmaine was not woken up to her gift to re-unite those who have crossed over to those still in life until 1999 after her father died. It took a further three years to work out what the voices she kept hearing were and then learn how to work with them.

If it wasn't for the great mediums Doris Stokes and John Edward, Charmaine may never have realised exactly what she was but thanks to their brave efforts of bringing mediumship into the open she was able to work with her hidden talents.

She has lived through a lot of heartache in her life, including the death of her brother, her four-year- old daughter, both to tragic accidents and more recently her mother. These deaths have made her a most compassionate and understanding reader, especially in relating to how her clients may be feeling.

She has created a grief-healing seminar called Soul Balancing and Healing retreat based on her own journey into the light after falling down in grief. Her personal grief led her to drug and alcohol addiction. After a battle with both she has been successfully sober for many years. She now actively tries to help people understand the whole life death process so as they may get back on the road to recovery faster so as not to waste this wonderful life we have been given.

Charmaine Wilson has been dedicated to giving accurate information about the spirit world to her clients since she began her work in 2002.
Though she has not been in the industry long, her achievements have been recognised by The Australian Psychics Association and she was awarded the 2005 Australian Psychic of the year for her efforts. In 2008 she was awarded the most gifted psychic in Australia when she won Channel Seven's hit show "The One". The Australian Psychics Association recognised her again in 2009 when she was awarded Queensland Psychic of the year.

Charmaine has worked extensively on radio throughout Australia for the past two years. This work has bought extensive healing to participating listeners.

Charmaine’s second book, which will be released later this year is an intense look at the whole grieving process and gives answers to surviving after a tragic death. Her focus is alleviating the fear of death and finding answers to the mystery of the afterlife. Her first book Spirit Whispers Is now available in all good book stores after Fontaine Press picked it up.
