Guy Kachel
Saturday, December 05 2015, From 5.30pm

The world of roots music opened up to Guy Kachel at an early age having been born in Tamworth, the country music capital of Australia. Together with this musical heritage there was also inspiration from artists like Bob Dylan, John Hiatt, Rodney Crowell and JJ Cale. Kachel says “I wanted to play and create music like these guys because I could really feel where they were coming from on a soul level”. Guy's songs were all developed and written based on a mixed bag of Blues, Folk, Country Rock and Americana. They are all delivered straight from the heart.

Mike McClellan - The Song & Dance Man (18+)

Mike McClellan - The Song & Dance Man (18+)
Saturday, December 12 2015, Doors: 7.45 Show: 8:30pm

MIKE McCLELLAN – the Song and Danceman.

Mike McClellan returns with a brand new album of songs, his second in three years. The stunningly eclectic and evocative Dancing In The Rain will only further enhance Mike’s reputation as one of Australia’s finest songwriters.

One of the songs he has been playing live I Wonder Who You’re Waiting For is already getting enormous reaction.

With songs like SONG AND DANCEMAN, THE ONE I LOVE, SATURDAY DANCE and ROCK AND ROLL LADY, Mike McClellan has earned an honoured place within the history of Australian music.

Mike’s career spanned the late 70’s and early 80’s, and brought chart-topping songs and gold albums – plus his own ABC TV show.

Then in 2011, after years of pouring his creative energies into the marketing and advertising industries, Mike made a long-awaited return to performing and recording, with an album of brand new songs If only for a moment… and again began to do concerts and folk festivals across the country.

That both new albums sustain the exceptional quality of his much-loved early work, while richly reflecting his growth as a writer, is ample testimony to Mike’s enduring talent.

Mike McClellan is back. Well and truly.

REECE MASTIN ‘Down to Earth Tour’

REECE MASTIN ‘Down to Earth Tour’
Sunday, December 27 2015, DOORS: 7PM SHOW: 7.30PM

Under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent at all times.

Offbeat Presents
‘Down to Earth Tour’
Intimate & Acoustic
+ Special guest Alys Ffion

2015 has been a huge year for Reece Mastin – new record label, new management, new album and, to celebrate turning 21 today, Reece has announced a short run of special Christmas/New Year acoustic shows with Nashville based, Sunshine Coast singer-songwriter, Alys Ffion.

Alys and Reece first met earlier this year for a songwriting session which went on to produce the haunting ballad, Down to Earth, which was included on Reece’s latest long player, Change Colours. Down to Earth is about letting someone you love go and giving them the space to make their own choices and mistakes. Alys and Reece have performed the song at recent instore appearances around the country and it’s quickly become a fan favourite.

Alys Ffion is highly regarded for her refreshing natural style, unique pop sensibilities and beyond-her-years compositions and is determined to create her own lane as an artist and avoid the comforts of conforming. At 19, she has chalked up some significant achievements including landing a publishing deal, supporting Tina Arena on her national tour and being endorsed by Martin Guitars.

With the release of Change Colours earlier this year, Reece Mastin’s true music-making journey finally began. The songs were all written by Reece with a little help from some friends including Alys, Chris Cheney (The Living End), producer Ben Rodgers, Mark Lizotte (Diesel), Michael Paynter and his manager, Mahalia Barnes.

On stage is where Reece shines and if you’ve been fortunate enough to see any of his performances over the past 12 months, you’ll have found a confident, natural born rock star with a stage presence to match his massive vocal range.

Kevin Borich is a man with 40 years of professional experience behind him; a man who opened for ACDC, a man who was casually invited onstage to jam with Santana more than once; a man has shared the stage with Bo Didley, Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple), Ron Wood (Rolling Stones), John Mayall, Taj Mahal, Living Colour, Joe Walsh and has opened shows for AC/DC in the USA, Toni Joe white, Ray Charles, Elton John, Status Quo, Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy and a man who topped the Australian Rock Music Awards twice as Best Guitarist.

Crowds that turn up for Kevin Borich performances are a mixture of generations and attitudes. There are the younger musicians that are left pondering just how 3 performers can create such inescapable sound of electrifying rock; there are the old rockers: men past their prime but somehow with their long hair and relaxed stance they seemed to be the epitome of cool.

There are young blues fans: guys and girls who know every word to every song and run around dancing manically and enjoying themselves immensely and there are the people from the indie regime who are curious to see if it is true what they have heard, that a guitarist song writer with a career spanning 40 years can transcend his rock based funk 'n' blues boundaries into the realms of their world.

Turns out it can

Following on from the success of their album of originals Certified Blue last year, The Black Sorrows will release simultaneously, two limited edition 12’ vinyl LPs titled Endless Sleep (Chapter 46) and Endless Sleep (Chapter 47).

The discs are a tribute to the likes of Lou Reed, JJ Cale, John Coltrane, Captain Beefheart, Hank Williams, Skip James and more. ‘I tip my hat to the spirit of these artists who have inspired me and give the songs another opportunity to be heard...I’m a disciple and it’s a bit of soul food.’ Joe Camilleri

A few tracks were recorded at the same time as Certified Blue for ‘entertainment value’. As the original artists /songwriters are deceased, Endless Sleep, a track on the album by fifties rockabilly artist Jody Reynolds, seemed the perfect title. Special guests include Vika Bull singing Big MayBelle’s 1958 song That’s a Pretty Good Love, a standout track on Chapter 46.

In support of the release in Europe, the band will embark on a 20 date tour of the UK and Scandinavia in August including 6 performances at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In 2014 Joe Camilleri celebrated 50 years in the music business. The release of the highly successful album Certified Blue added to the 50th anniversary by giving him his first mainstream chart appearance in almost a decade. Album number 45 for Camilleri and number 17 for The Black Sorrows, Certified Blue peaked at No. 2 in the ARIA Jazz and Blues Chart and finished at No. 5 for the year after 40 weeks. In The Australian Blues and Roots Chart, the album peaked at No. 1: quite an achievement for an independent release.

Endless Sleep is another superb production by Joe Camilleri and The Sorrows keyboard player,

John McAll. Every intimate nuance has been beautifully captured on this vinyl only release.

A journey through the life & songs of Johnny Cash

The contrasting voices of Barry ‘Dr. Baz’ Ferrier and vivacious songstress Ilona Harker combine to present a musical tribute to the legendary country superstar Johnny Cash, his epic life story and love affair with partner June Carter, threaded through with a tongue in cheek look at Johnny Cash’s wild side and their stormy off stage and on stage relationship.

The show captures Johnny looking back on his rise from humble conditions as a child on a poor cotton farm soaking up gospel and country music, to tough times on work gangs, enlistment during the Korean war as a US airman, which got him to the honky tonks of Germany where he began to hone his characteristic style and began writing his unique songs, and on to his rise as a music sensation and a recording artist for the legendary Sun records alongside Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis.

The show strings together all Johnny Cash’s great hits and signature tunes as the story unfolds, and woven through this rich musical journey is a fascinating glimpse into the darker side of his life, his outlaw image and the Prison Concerts, and the epic love story with lifetime soul mate June Carter, a child star and golden haired girl of the famous country music icons ‘the Carter Family’.

Looking back on his tough origins, his rise to fame, and his drug addiction, they laugh, they joke, they fight and they harmonize, as they bring so many great songs to life, accompanied by the rockabilly rhythm of the Tennessee Two (with lush backing vocals from Slim Pickens on Bass and Neil McCann on twangy Fender guitar). It’s a polished and entertaining upbeat musical.

Underage must be with a parent at all times.

BITTERSWEET - KASEY CHAMBERS (Underage permitted with a Parent)

BITTERSWEET - KASEY CHAMBERS (Underage permitted with a Parent)
Thursday, January 07 2016, Doors: 7.30pm - Show: 8.30pm

More so than ever before, Kasey Chambers is writing like a true storyteller. The unrequited, antiquated refrains of ‘Oh Grace’ are sung as a man yearning his one true love. Likewise the broken-hearted nostalgia of ‘Bittersweet’ captures the story of two old lovers from both sides. Even ‘Stalker’ sees Kasey shedding her skin and imagining prowling after the fictional Spencer Reid, the socially-awkward genius from Criminal Minds. “In the show, the characters really have no personal life…so I kept thinking ‘how would I get the character Spencer Reid to notice me?...What crime am I willing to commit?’…”

But despite finding new ways to craft her stories, Kasey Chambers is still inimitably her. From the red dust of her nomadic childhood to the surf coast where she’s raised her family, Kasey’s always maintained that her records have been a testament to “who [she] was at the time”. And her newest album is proof that she’s unwilling to settle for anything less.

“I don’t want to write songs based on what I think people want to hear from me. I hope that in the end, this is what they warm to.”

ABSTRACT Entertainment

Underage are permitted - must be with a parent at all times.

THE SUN RECORDS ALL-STARS is a concert featuring tributes to the legendary artists who graced the studios of the famed Memphis-based record company SUN RECORDS. Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins all made their careers there. This official and exclusive touring show stars a talented ensemble cast headed by Roy LeBlanc as Johnny Cash, Gino Monopoly as Elvis Presley, Bill Culp as Carl Perkins and Joe Passion as Jerry Lee Lewis. This is the birth of Rock ‘n Roll in the 1950’s.

“The Sun Records All-Stars is about a magical era that still resonates with musicians and their audience. The music is timeless, without a doubt, and the musicians at the centre of it were originals who were true to themselves. They had authenticity and they weren’t contrived – they were real artists.”
